As one of the only dedicated Arts Colleges in the country, Hereford College of Arts (HCA) has long had a glowing reputation for its College and University-level courses – the latter growing rapidly, and in 2014 included MA Courses for the first time.

The MA in Contemporary Crafts focuses on developing and extending individual creative practice alongside critical thinking, and members of the public will have a chance to view the very first ‘final’ show from the course when it opens on Thursday 3rd December at HCA’s College Road Campus – home to the College’s University-level courses.

The individual work produced in the show is a culmination of a fifteen month-long programme of practical and theoretical engagement within the wider context of crafts, both as a profession and as a personal expression. Many of the MA Graduates exhibiting their work are also graduates of the College’s BA (Hons) Degree courses; Wilna Venter and Maureen Davis studied BA (Hons) Textile Design, William Rolls, Will Hughes and Holland Otik are all BA (Hons) Contemporary Design Crafts alumni, and James Osborne and Alex Barrett are graduates of BA (Hons) Artist Blacksmithing. They are joined in the exhibition by Rebecca Davis, a ‘Mid-Career Maker’ who returned to education to study her MA.
“It’s been fascinating to see how our MA students’ work has developed over the last fifteen months,” said Del Done, MA Contemporary Crafts Course Leader. “Some have continued developing their work and taking it in new directions, others have taken different routes entirely. The end result is a fantastic body of diverse and exciting work, and we can’t wait to show it to the wider community.”
The exhibition runs from Thursday 3rd December 2015 until Friday 15th January 2016 (closed Monday 21st December – Monday 4th January) at HCA’s College Road Campus. Opening times are weekdays, 9:30am – 4:30pm. To find out more about courses, news, events and open days at the college, visit hca.ac.uk.
