Organisers say that this has been made possible with the help of Weston Favell Shopping Centre, and is now fully funded thanks to a grant from Big Local programme Growing Together. The project has also secured funding from the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund and from the Ernest Cook Trust.

Reelscape Community’s Chairperson Becky Adams says, “We’ve been bowled over by Weston Favell Shopping Centre’s support and it’s great that we are now at the heart of the community. The large shop space gives us a little of the film studio feel, whilst also allowing different groups of young people to collaborate, the public to appreciate their work in our highly visible spot and for the community to share ideas. It is especially wonderful that we can announce the news at the same time as receiving a grant from Growing Together which focuses on serving the same community.”

Fortune Cookies is a cross-cultural family comedy about a young girl struggling to balance her father’s desire to give her a traditional Chinese upbringing with her own ambition of becoming an actress. The film is headed by female duo Producer Becky Adams of Northants-based Reelscape Films and Writer/Director Brenda Lee. With a strong lead female character, its regional production and a cultural context not often represented in mainstream media, Fortune Cookies is set to star Fiona Rene (Snatch ‘n’ Grab) with Les Dennis (Coronation Street), Pik-Sen Lim (Johnny English Reborn), Liz Sutherland (Bad Education), Daniel York (Whitechapel), Ozzie Yue (Doctor Who) and Jenny Bede (BBC Comedy Feeds).

Reelscape Community will be working with young people aged between 10 and 19 years, recruited through agencies such as The Mayday Trust, Free2Talk CIC, Change of Scene, Northampton Academy, Northamptonshire County Council and C2C Charitable Trust.

For organisations and companies wanting to know more about the scheme, there will be a launch event held at the Hub on Tuesday 25th November. To express your interest in attending, contact Reelscape Community on [email protected] Alternatively, learn more on the Reelscape Community website.
